Vad är Ayurveda?
Human beings face unprecedented challenges; we seek new ways to meet the demands of modern life, as its unrelenting flow of information demands our attention. We have greater opportunities for a richer and fulfilling life than before. Thus letting us have the insight that to survive as individuals we need to evolve new strategies.
We eagerly embrace change. Our enthusiasm for new enables us to cross technological and philosophical boundaries that were unimaginable or unthinkable a century ago. This fascination of change is extracting a toll on our society. Many of us feel uprooted and disconnected from the traditions that have provided guidance and nourishment to us for thousands of years.
The ancient Vedic tradition taught and handed out by the great sages of India offers us a wealth of practical knowledge on how to live a healthy and meaningful life. Vedic wisdom is timeless and unbounded therefore it is relevant in this modern age.
Ayurveda is the extraordinary mind-body medicine of India with its great spiritual tradition, a resource for bringing wholeness to all levels of our existence. It is the world’s oldest and complete system of natural healing containing great wisdom for all humanity.
Ayurveda – Ayu / Life, Veda / Science.
Thus Ayurveda together stands for Science of Life. It is holistic alternative science from India that dates back to more than 5000 years. It forms the foundation for Buddhism, Taoism, and Tibetan along with other cultural medicines that have many similar patterns to Ayurveda.
Ayurveda encompasses not only science but philosophy as well. The word philosophy refers to love of truth and in Ayurveda truth is Being, Pure Existence. The source of all life. Ayurveda is a science of truth as it is expressed in life. According to the teaching of Ayurveda every human being has four biological and spiritual instincts. Religious, Financial, procreative and freedom. Our balanced good health is the foundation for the fulfillment of these instincts. Ayurveda helps a healthy person to maintain health and the diseased person to regain health. It is a medical metaphysical healing life science. The mother of all healing arts. The practice of Ayurveda is designed to promote human happiness health and creative growth.
The five elements then manifest in the functioning of the five senses of man as well as in certain functions of physiology. Thus the five elements are directly related to our ability to perceive the external environment in which we live. These are also related through senses to five actions expressing the functions of the sensory organs. The basic elements –
Ether, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth are related to –
Sound, Touch, Vision, Taste and Smell.
Thus at the heart of Ayurveda is its concept of the Tridosha or three Doshas or the human constitution. From ether and air comes VATA, from fire and an aspect of water comes PITTA, and from water and earth comes KAPHA. By these elements and Doshas we determine the basic nature of different individuals and we establish a line of treatment unique to their needs.
The three Doshas can be recognized by their attributes. Vata is dry, cold light, mobile, subtle, hard, rough, changeable and clear. It is the most powerful of the Doshas, being the life force itself, the strongest to create disease. It governs all movement and carries both Pitta and Kapha. It dwells in the colon, hips thighs, ears, bones and sense of touch. Its main site is the colon where it accumulates, causes disease and from which it can be expelled directly from the body.
Pitta is hot, light, fluid, subtle, sharp, soft and clear. It governs heat, temperature and all chemical reactions. Pitta dwells in the small intestine, stomach, sweat, blood, plasma, and sense of sight, its main location is the small intestine where it accumulates and from which it can be directly expelled from the body.
Kapha is cold, wet, heavy, slow, dull, smooth, dense and cloudy. It maintains substance, weight and coherence in the body. It dwells in the chest, throat, head, pancreas, ribs, stomach, plasma, fat, nose and tongue. Its main site is the stomach where it accumulates and causes disease and from which it can be directly expelled from the body.
Within the Ayurveda system there are many therapies that can be performed to rid ourselves of any diseases minor, acute or chronic. Stress release and relaxation. It is a sense of spirituality where the therapies are working on mind body and spirit. The therapies include Herb and Nutrition, Abhyanga massage, Shirobhyang, Shirodhara, Panchkarma etc. It reminds us that to have and maintain true health one needs to take some quiet time for spiritual development. The goal of life is self realization. A state of unshakable divine mental peace. As self worth develops people are not as easily swayed by peer pressure, whether pressed to take drugs or lead an unethical life. Low self esteem causes people to abuse themselves. Having someone recognizes ones inner divinity and self healing abilities develop confidence. Experiencing positive results from self healing and spiritual development further generates confidence health mental peace and divinity.
One must examine many elements before choosing an appropriate therapy or therapies. Slavishly following the words of a book or therapist verbatim can be dangerous. Please accept this information as educational and not dictatorial.
